Sheldon Ogilvie
Sheldon is the founder and head coach of Pīwakawaka Fencing. He is a coach who specializes in developing women in fencing, building and creating a strong positive community, and helping every fencer achieve their version of success in the sport.
He has a passion for high level international fencing, as well as developing grassroots through the community.
As a fencer, Sheldon is the only New Zealander to represent NZL at the Youth Olympic Games, he has attended 3 World Championships, and represented NZL at the Commonwealth Championships.
As a coach he has established a growing club with over 200 members, as well as coached at three World Championships, and two Commonwealth Championships helping secure three silver medals and two bronze for NZL.

Tamsyn Campbell

Tamsyn started fencing in high school and quickly jumped right into fencing competitively. She has represented New Zealand at the World Championships, Commonwealth Championships, the Olympic Qualifier along with being a current member of the National team.
She has completed a bachelor of Sport Coaching at the University of Canterbury, specializing in Sport Science and Performance Analysis. As of 2024 Tamsyn is In her last year of study finishing a bachelor of Science majoring in Psychology.
Tamsyn has been coaching for Piwakawaka Fencing for four years now and works with students from a beginner level to Oceanic level.

Milo Neil
In 2022 Milo had the pressure of representing New Zealand at the Commonwealth u17s in London. Since then Milo has participated in several national and international competitions, as well as beginning the journey into coaching. Milo is currently coaching at Selwyn House and Medbury, as well as operating as our club armorer.
Daniel Crellin
From a young age Daniel was drawn to fencing through an interest in historical European combat sports, and fencing pretty much fit that perfectly. He has competed in both Oceania Championships, Australian Nationals Championships and has been fencing at national competitions since high school.
Josh Carson
Growing up Josh was always interested in the outdoors and through the help of sea scouts he discovered fencing which stayed in his mind until he arrived in high school. At Burnside I had the opportunity to pursue fencing again through the Piwakawaka club.
"Fencing has been an amazing experience that has allowed me to practice, compete and coach inside of a positive and friendly environment. Over the last couple years I’ve had the privilege to fence at national competitions as well as having the pleasure of being a student coach at Burnside High School".
Mak Evans
Mak has been passionate about fencing since she first started in 2021. She quickly started working her way up the ranks both competing and refereeing at first regional, then national events.
As a high school student working towards her Sport Coaching Certificate, she is eager to share her experience and knowledge with fencers of all levels. She is also proud to serve as the Student Leader at Avonside Girls High, and a supporting coach at Selwyn House.
